Decorative panels are designed for low-maintenance interior use. A quick wipe-down every few weeks keeps them looking new for 15-20 years. The previous answer here mistakenly described solar-panel cleaning (turn off power, etc.) - for decorative wall panels the routine is much simpler and there are no electrical safety issues.

Routine cleaning (works for almost all panel types):

1. Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or feather duster.
2. For fluted louvers specifically: use a soft brush (or vacuum with brush attachment) to clear dust from the grooves - this is where dust settles.
3. Marks, smudges and light stains: wipe with a damp (not soaking wet) microfibre cloth and a mild detergent or dish soap solution. Wipe in the direction of the panel grain or grooves, not across.
4. Wipe dry immediately afterwards with a clean dry cloth to prevent water marks and streaks.
5. For finger marks, oily stains and kitchen splash: a mild glass cleaner or all-purpose cleaner on a microfibre cloth, then dry.

What to AVOID:

1. Abrasive scouring pads, steel wool, scratch pads - scratch panel surfaces and dull the finish.
2. Harsh chemicals - bleach, ammonia, acetone, nail polish remover, paint thinner, strong solvents. These can damage panel finishes and protective layers.
3. Excessive water on MDF and HDF panels - these are not waterproof; surface moisture from a damp cloth is fine, but soaking the panel can cause swelling and delamination.
4. Steam cleaners - the heat can warp panels and damage adhesive joints.
5. Acidic cleaners (vinegar at full strength, lime-scale removers) - can etch metallic finishes and damage some surface coatings.

Material-specific care:

1. Charcoal / Polystyrene panels - dust with a soft cloth; avoid strong solvents that can dissolve polystyrene. Light damp cloth wiping is fine.

2. PVC panels - fully waterproof. Can be wiped with water freely, mild detergent as needed. Most forgiving panel type to clean.

3. MDF / HDF panels - damp cloth only, never soaking wet. The fibreboard core absorbs water through any tiny gap and can swell. If a spill happens, dry immediately.

4. WPC exterior panels - hose down with water 2-3 times a year to remove dust, pollen and mild bird droppings. Mild detergent for stubborn stains. WPC is weather-rated, so a gentle pressure wash is fine.

5. Acoustic fabric panels - vacuum monthly with brush attachment to remove dust from the fabric. Spot-clean stains with a fabric cleaner (test on an inconspicuous area first). For heavy soiling, professional upholstery cleaning is the safest option.

6. Alabaster sheets - soft dry cloth only. The natural translucent surface is delicate; avoid wetting and avoid any abrasion. If wet, blot immediately with a soft cloth.

7. PU Stone panels - soft brush for dust in the texture grooves; damp cloth for marks. Most PU stone has a protective surface coating, so light cleaning is fine.

Annual deep clean: once a year, do a thorough dust + damp-wipe of all panel surfaces. Check for any loose edges, gaps at the joints, or damage that needs attention. Re-attach any loose panel edges with construction adhesive. Re-caulk perimeter silicone if it's cracked or yellowed.

With this minimal care, quality decorative panels look essentially the same after 15-20 years as they did on day 1.

Packing standards - panels are fragile and need careful packing:

1. Panels are packed in protective cardboard or plywood crates with foam cushioning at corners and along edges.
2. Each panel face is film-protected with a peel-off plastic to prevent scratches during transit and handling.
3. Bundles are bound with strapping to prevent panel-to-panel friction.
4. Fragile categories - alabaster sheets, deep 3D relief panels, large-format decorative sheets - get extra padding and 'fragile' marking.
5. Heavy items (PU stone, WPC) are pallet-packed for safe forklift handling.

What to do on delivery - the inspection protocol:

1. Inspect every box AT THE TIME OF DELIVERY (before signing the delivery receipt). Look for visible damage to the outer packing.
